Windows Essential Business Server version 2

No word from Microsoft on how successful Windows Essential Business Server 2008 has been. The company was looking to win over more than 1 million mid-sized businesses with the offerings formerly codenamed Centro. Successful or not, Microsoft is ready to move ahead with Windows Essential Business Server, and is looking to start work on version 2. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Windows Essential Business Server 2010/2011, and leaning hard toward 2010 for the version number.  There’s also another possibility involving the traditional server versioning label: R2.

Be advised, what follows is an exercise in speculation. The next version of Windows Essential Business Server will also be built as a collection of services, subscriptions and on premise server software solutions with Windows Server at the center, but this time, Windows Server 2008 R2. My money is also on the integration of Exchange Server 2010, as it is on Windows Essential Business Server v2 stretching into the Cloud well over the initial release of Windows Essential Business Server.
