Download Windows 8 RTM via MSDN and TechNet

The RTM Build of Windows 8 is now available for download via MSDN and TechNet. Remember, you have to own a paid MSDN or TechNet subscription in order to access the Windows 8 RTM bits, but if you do here are pages where you’ll find the download links:

MSDN –  http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/downloads/default.aspx#searchTerm=windows&ProductFamilyId=0&Languages=en&PageSize=50&PageIndex=0&FileId=0

TechNet – http://technet.microsoft.com/subscriptions/downloads/default.aspx#searchTerm=windows&ProductFamilyId=0&Languages=en&PageSize=50&PageIndex=0&FileId=0

UPDATE 8/15/2012: It looks like the MSDN and TechNet servers weren’t able to deal with the number of subscribers crowding to download Windows 8 RTM. For the time being Windows 8 RTM downloads can no longer be accessed on MSDN and TechNet.

First thing that comes to mind is that Microsoft should have prepared better for this. But I have no doubts that the Redmond company is working to resolve the issue as I write this.

UPDATE: It looks like the download links are back up.

UPDATE 8/15/2012: Download Windows 8 RTM via MSDN and TechNet

Microsoft has confirmed the release to manufacturing of Windows 8. News already broke that Windows 7’s successor had gone gold, and the Redmond company is now also saying so officially.

MSDN and TechNet subscribers will be able to download the Windows 8 RTM bits starting on August 15, 2012. But only those with paid MSDN and TechNet subscriptions will get access. If you really want legal access to Windows 8 RTM earlier than the rest of customers, then do have a look at a TechNet subscription, they’re drastically cheaper than MSDN ones, even affordable some might say.

People will be able get Windows 8 starting on October 26th either by upgrading for $39.99 or on a new PC or device. And if you buy an eligible Windows 7 PC today, you will be able to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 (U.S.) through the Windows Upgrade Offer.

However, we have a number of programs that provides various audiences early access to the Windows 8 RTM code to help prepare for Windows 8 as it enters the marketplace this fall:

  • August 15th: Developers will be able to download the final version of Windows 8 via your MSDN subscriptions.
  • August 15th: IT professionals testing Windows 8 in organizations will be able to access the final version of Windows 8 through your TechNet subscriptions.
  • August 16th: Customers with existing Microsoft Software Assurance for Windows will be able to download Windows 8 Enterprise edition through the Volume License Service Center (VLSC), allowing you to test, pilot and begin adopting Windows 8 Enterprise within your organization.
  • August 16th: Microsoft Partner Network members will have access to Windows 8.
  • August 20th: Microsoft Action Pack Providers (MAPS) receive access to Windows 8.
  • September 1st: Volume License customers without Software Assurance will be able to purchase Windows 8 through Microsoft Volume License Resellers.
