Microsoft to Develop New, Breakthrough, Touch-first, Immersive Apps for Windows 8

Guess what, some of the first new, breakthrough, touch-first, immersive applications for Windows 8 are going to come from Microsoft. Now, I bet you actually saw this coming a mile off, I had, but it’s still pretty nice to get confirmation, isn’t it.

And yes, the all shiny, all new, breakthrough, touch-first, immersive Windows 8 apps will come from the same team developing Windows Live desktop applications right now, since you were asking :P. One thing though, will the be using HTML5 or Microsoft’s old-school technologies? Since there’s talk of immersiveness, my best is on HTML5. And I’d sure love to see some Windows Live Mail and Messenger HTML5 clients!

We are seeking a great developer who will help build the next generation of touch-oriented photo/video experiences for consumers. You will be working with an experienced group of developers with a successful track record of building new experiences such as those found in Photo Gallery, Movie Maker and Writer. You will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the technical direction for the team.

 

Candidates must have a proven track record of shipping applications through multiple product cycles, must have experience successfully solving complex user interface problems, and must have solid fundamental computer science skills. Expertise with Trident/MSHTML, HTML5, and JavaScript are critical, and familiarity with COM is greatly beneficial. Exposure to image, video and/or audio processing technology is helpful. Good understanding of algorithms and data structures, and great communication and cross-group skills are essential. A BS/MS in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent, and 2+ years of engineering experience are required.
